Portsmouth Wedding Photographer – Southampton Wedding Photographer
Weddings – Portsmouth Wedding Photographer
Welcome to my Hampshire Wedding Photography brand PortsmouthWeddingPhotographer.com based Near Portsmouth City Centre, Hampshire.
As the Portsmouth Wedding Photographer I have been shooting weddings since 2007. I try to be flexible by not using set packages such as many wedding photographers do. I find its better to make each wedding unique to the needs and wants of the wedding couple. My style is mainly Contemporary with a bit of Traditional mixed in.
As the Portsmouth Wedding Photographer I can shoot anything from 2 hours up to a full day from the Bride getting ready right up the end of the evening reception and everything in between. I can change any/all of it to meet your requirements. Normally I would provide the high resolution images on a disc as this is most popular, but I can can provide Prints and Albums if requested.
I cover all of the south of England including Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, West Sussex, Middlesex, London. If your wedding is outside these areas please ask as I am able to extend my area.

When choosing a Wedding Photographer always consider the packages on offer and compare them to other Photographers. Ask your self why is one cheaper/more expensive? What do you get for your money? Don’t ever choose one because there cheap, why are they cheap? Normally because there experience not as good or there kit is not. There are many amateurs that will do complete weddings for £100-£200. Your photographs are meant to last a lifetime so consider this when budgeting for your photographer.
Details are the key to how much attention the photographer is paying when taking photographs at your wedding. Look at the photographs on their website, look out for blurry ones or ones with the subjects eyes are shut etc. Look at all the little details, if they don’t look very good on their website which is their best work, ask yourself what yours will be like if you book them? Also check complete sets they show you in a meeting.
FAQs – What questions should I ask my wedding photographer?
What do I get for my money?
Many of my potential clients ask what is included in the price I quote them? This is a very good question, make sure you ask for what you want and it is stated clearly what you get for your price so there is no confusion later, get it in writing or an email. Listen to the photographer as they may have other options or ideas that perhaps you may not have thought of already. For every hour of Photography there is at least 2-3 hours of pre or post shoot organisation, processing, etc. Your not just getting some photos for a price. Your getting years of experience, creativity, ideas, knowledge as well as a list of things the photographer has already paid for such as:
Fuel & Travel Time, Pre Shoot meeting
Computer Equipment & Software
Camera Equipment & Insurance
Website, Printing and Advertising
Running Costs, Phone, Car, Utilities
What style do you shoot?
I shoot in contemporary style. I like to shoot in a fun, relaxed, modern style with many natural shots where the subject is unaware of the camera. I do like to include some of the more traditional style portraits/couple shots of the Bride and Groom. I try to meet the needs and wants of the client.
Clean: Lightly processed to appear natural
Matte: A low-contrast look with washed out/pastel colours, similar to vintage film
High Contrast: A vibrant look with bright colours that jump out.
Can I use my own ideas for photographs?
Yes, the more input from you makes my job better as I get exactly the shots what you want.
Can you show me a complete set of recent wedding pictures?
Yes I have selected images on my website but in the meeting I can show you a complete set.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, I have Full Public Liability Insurance.
Are you a member of any professional photography organisations?
No, many photographers pay to get these qualifications. I have learnt all of my photography skills on my own and from working with many other professional photographers. My work and client list is all built up from lots of hard work. I let my photos sell me as a photographer. Please also look at my corporate images to see the size & scale of some of my clients. What happens if you have never shot at our chosen venue?
This is not a problem as every wedding venue I have photographed at I had to shoot for the first time once. I always visit the wedding venue where possible to have a look around and see the features to give me ideas of what we can use for your photographs. I will also look at the wedding venues website, gallery as part of my research.
What happens if you can’t photograph our wedding due to illness?
As a professional photographer I work with many other photographers of similar or even better standards. I would draft in a fully experienced wedding photographer to cover the day.
What happens if something goes wrong with your camera?
I always carry back ups and spares of my camera, lenses to any job. I also shoot on multiple cameras and cards, so in the unlikely event of a fault or error not all of the images would be lost. The same goes for storing the images after the wedding, multiple copies are kept in different formats. Even if if something happens to your copy of the images I keep the originals so could do you a replacement set.
What do we do if the weather is really bad?
I always say to the client its good to have a back up plan just incase as we know how unpredictable the british weather can be. Umbrellas are always a good idea too. By planning it gives us more options. Even if it rains it can make a fun shoot (singing in the rain style) and makes it different from other weddings.
Do you let other guests take their own photographs?
Yes, the best thing about this is that there in different place from me so might get a different angle or view. Plus everyone there will want there own memories of the day.
Can you take specific shots, such as me and my grandma?
Yes, I will ask for a list of shots/combinations of friends & family before the day and tick them off. As long as you plan enough time for these in your day. about 1-1.5 Hours is good depending on the number of guests. Plus allow time to get the bride and groom shots(30-60minutes depending on travel).
How long does it take to get our photos after the wedding, do we get digital copies of the photographs?
Normally 3-4 weeks depending on the size of the wedding and during busy times it may be a little longer. Where possible I like to have them ready for when you return from honeymoon.
How can I actually be sure that you’ll be any good and that we’ll get along?
All of the photo’s on my website are mine, personally shot by me(except the one of me on the about page). Many photographers will use images on their website taken from other photographers or the internet. So if you have a meeting always ask to see actual wedding sets they have shot. So if you like my images you hopefully you think i am good.
Will we get along? I try to be a part of your day, not an intrusion. If you look at my reviews on the website or my Facebook page – Click Here (these are all 100% genuine) you will see that I am fun, easy going but professional. You will almost always get more effort, shots or time than you expect from and at most of my weddings I receive comments to reflect this. Before you book me I like to arrange a meeting so you can get to know me. About 95% of people book me after a wedding or corporate meeting. I shot about 20 weddings in 2015 which may not seem like many but that was around my day job of Graphic/Web design & Photography. During the summer I work 6-7 days a week up to 16 hour days for several months, this doesn’t go un noticed by my clients.
Will you take my photographs or send someone else?
I will personally be the Lead(1st) photographer and if wanted/required I will have a 2nd photographer.
If we decide to have two photographers for our wedding – does that cost extra?
Yes it will cost a little more. The advantage of having two photographers is that you get two different styles, angles as I can’t be in two places at once and you get twice as many photographs without paying double the price.
How do you work when under pressure & deal with problems?
I work well under pressure and have dealt with problems as they arise as accidents can and will happen from time to time. The key to this is planning and being very organised. Keeping all my kit well serviced and looked after, checking everything is packed before I leave. Keep in touch with the client so any changes to times, locations etc are noted. I also use a shot list as mentioned earlier, and a contact list with all the important names, numbers & addresses.
Where possible I will visit the church/reception venue before the wedding. This gives me the chance to scope out the best places to set up shots and set up a plan B inside if possible incase it rains.
How early do I need to book my photographer?
That is entirely up to you, but I would say once you have chosen your photographer, book them to avoid disappointment. I would say about a no less than 8 months in advance. But remember if your wedding is in the middle of summer photographers are going to be booked up earlier. If nothing else get a deposit down to secure the day.
My Wedding is outside your catchment area, is this a problem?
This is not a problem as I can travel further if needed but I would have to factor in travel time & costs.
