Laura and Will, Southdowns Manor Wedding

I was delighted when Laura and Will contacted me to photograph their wedding after meeting with them in Southsea. Laura and Will had chosen Southdowns Manor as their wedding venue. Southdowns Manor is on the Hampshire & West Sussex border near Petersfield in a remote area in the South Downs National Park. Recently taken over and refurbished Southdowns Manor opened in december 2013 as a wedding venue. The stunning interior is very modern with great features such as the fireplace and garden over looking farmland is lovely for photographs. The day started rather grey and grim but the weather was meant to improve. It was brightening up and so I made the most of all the natural light in the porch area with some shots of the flowers all in a line. Southdowns Manor Wedding Photographer Flowers shot in the font porch area. Once the hair and make up was finished on the bride and bridesmaids I took some time with the them shooting in the amazing Bridal Suite.  This is one of my favourite shots of the day. Southdowns Manor Wedding Photographer Bride on the bed in the Bridal Suite. I made good use of the scenic views overlooking local farmland and with the stormy skies made for a more dramatic shot with some vibrant colours. Tips on how to make your wedding plan

Planning your wedding can be hard work.  But hopefully with some of my tips you can make your life a bit easier making your wedding plan.

The 2 most common problems that arise are: 1. Stress - Stress levels go up massively as the wedding day gets closer. 2. Budget - The planned expenditure goes up and up, ending up well over budget. Unfortunately these two problems are often interlinked, as the spending goes up, so do the stress levels.   Time - Give yourself lots of time, if you have just got engaged plan your wedding for the following year instead of rushing it this year. This will mean you have lots of time to organise everything in the following steps.  The earlier you book things the longer it gives you to save money or make instalment payments.   Wedding Plan - Make your wedding plan.  Make a list of all the things you want and need to organise for your wedding day eg. Wedding Insurance, Venue, Dress, Suits, Colour scheme, Registrar, Reception, Rings, Cake, Flowers, Invitations, Food, Table Decorations, Table Plan, Chair Covers, DJ, Band, Wedding Car etc.   Research - Doing lots of research will help you choose items on your wedding plan. Have a good look around to get lots of ideas. Wedding Fairs - Wedding Fairs are a great place to start but you will get bombarded with information.  Collect Leaflets/Business Cards, you can go through the information/websites later. To find a wedding fair near you go to Hampshire Wedding Fairs. Wedding Magazines - There are many on the market, maybe buy just one or two to get started. Internet - Todays biggest collection of wedding information, wedding blogs and wedding photography.   DIY - Do it yourself, this is one of the best and easiest ways to save you loads of money on your budget.  You can make and decorate invites yourself.  Get friends and family round for an evening and make a little production line of cutting and sticking etc.  These things do take lots of hours so make sure you start early. Shop Around - Don't take the first price you get, shop around, compare quotes for everything. Many suppliers will price match or do a deal, remember they would rather knock off a little bit than not get the job at all.  Even if its only saving you a few pounds here and there it can add up. Online Shopping - You can find great bargains online for many items such as chair covers, sweets, glassware, beads, sparkles, mirrors, table centre pieces etc. Much of the time its is cheaper to buy them instead of hiring them, after the wedding all they need is a good clean and you can resell them to get about half your money back second hand. Wedding Insurance - Very Important, get wedding insurance as one of your first things.  That way if something goes wrong or cancelled you are covered and don't lose £1,000's of savings. Use well known suppliers and get references. Compromise - Marriage is a compromise and you will sometimes have to sacrifice something to get something else instead.  Not everything on your list maybe possible so choose only what you really need.   Important - It is your wedding day so don't get yourself so stressed out or broke that you don't enjoy it.  Good planning can mean that your wedding day is fun relaxed and full of great memories.

Laura & Ben’s Wedding at The Solent Hotel

I was honoured when Laura asked me to photograph her wedding.  Laura and Ben's wedding was at Milton, Portsmouth.  It was a lovely day in the summer, with perfect weather for a wedding. Solent Hotel The Wedding was at St Martin's Church, Milton, Portsmouth. The church is very spacious and full of natural light making it a great location for photographs. The Bride and Groom confetti shot after the wedding service. Solent Hotel A lovely group shot outside the church. Wedding photographs can look great in black and white. Solent Hotel After the wedding service at the church in Milton we went via Portsmouth seafront to Old Portsmouth next to the Square Tower and Round Tower.  There are some old archways which are left from the defences of the old port and town. They are great for photographs of the bride and groom even in the rain as they are undercover. Solent Hotel Wedding Car Hampshire Wedding Car Solent Hotel To finish the day we went on to The Solent Hotel, Whitley for the wedding reception.  The Solent Hotel is a very popular wedding venue as it is very modern but its interior has been decorated in an older style with great features such as, large fireplaces, wooden roof beams and tile floors. The Solent Hotel has 2 rooms that are perfect for your wedding celebrations, from a wedding breakfast for 80 to an evening party for 200. Carisbrooke Suite is great for smaller weddings of up to 80 people.  This room is upstairs at the Hotel and has plenty of natural light, ideal for a more personal wedding service. Hambledon Suite is great for larger weddings of up to 200 people. This room is downstairs at the Hotel. The room is huge, giving you loads of space for a large wedding breakfast and evening reception. Solent Hotel Wedding group shot, shot from the Carisbrooke Suite window upstairs. Jenni & Brian’s, The Square Tower Wedding, Old Portsmouth

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Jenni & Brian's wedding at The Square Tower in Old Portsmouth.  It was a beautiful sunny day, almost too sunny!! Bride and Groom holding hands at their wedding ceremony at The Square Tower. For those of you that haven't been before, the square tower was built in 1494 Henry VII was king, the Square Tower was established as part of the defences to protect the rapidly growing Portsmouth Naval Port.  The Square Tower is set right on the seafront with stunning views overlooking the solent and Isle of Wight.  It is one of Portsmouth's most popular wedding venues.  There are 2 halls at the square tower for holding your wedding ceremony. Lower hall capacity = 100 Upper Hall capacity = 80   Bride and Groom at their wedding ceremony at The Square Tower. The Square Tower also has the great advantage of being right next to the arches in Old Portsmouth which is a beautiful location for some photographs after the wedding ceremony.  On a sunny day it is under shade making some lovely natural light shots with a gentle glow.  In the rain its also brilliant as its all under cover so you can get shots with a little more drama to them, you can always get some great photographs.  There is also the gravel beach, high walls and views to the Isle of Wight which can make interesting backdrops for those special pictures.
